I guess, everyone has heard about new Nokia's plan and their strategic alliance with Microsoft. Honestly, I was very surprised when I heard of this alliance, so I started to ask my friends what they think about that and found out that most of my friends were very optimistic about the new strategy of Nokia and future products of this Finnish giant.
As for me, I think that it's the end of Nokia as we know it. I mean, of course, Mr. Elop had to do something to safe that, as he sad, "burning platform" but this is not the way out.
To my mind, this agreement will bring a good profit to Nokia in some years but in long-term it will destroy it. Nokia has always been popular not just as a phone manufacturer but also as a company with it's own ecosystem. No doubts, Symbian is dead and nothing can safe it, but there is still MeeGo. Yeah, nobody knows what MeeGo will look like, but, after all, Nokia would at least stay with its own app store - Ovi, its own OS and its own phones. That differs (differed) Nokia from companies like HTC, Samsung, and LG. But this agreement will make Nokia just another manufacturer of hardware. Microsoft does whatever it wants with the OS and Nokia follows. If we take that WM 7 becomes popular in future, nothing will stop Microsoft from going to another hardware supplier. If it happens, Nokia will be in even bigger problems.
Symbian dies, Qt follows, and it is the death of the Nokia we know. Of course, it will operate, and maybe will make profits, but it won't be successful as it has been two-three years ago.
Of course, there are much more to discuss, and I may be wrong. I hope that I'm wrong.
What's your opinion?
